The Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) a New York based non-profit tax-exempt arts organization which has been presenting concert programs in New York City since 1983, is one of the oldest musicians associations in the U.S.A. Since its founding over forty years ago (1965) under the aegis of a group of Chicago based musicians, the organization has developed a repository of new music that has encompassed the entire spectrum of traditional and contemporary music.

The AACM is significantly unique in that no other organization of its kind has nurtured and brought to fruition so many creative artists under one banner:

Muhal Richard Abrams, Leroy Jenkins, Anthony Braxton, Henry Threadgill, Joseph Jarman, John Stubblefield, Fred Hopkins, Leo Smith, Thurman Barker, Frank Gordon, Adegoke Steve Colson, Iqua Colson, Amina Claudine Myers, Reggie Nicholson, Roscoe Mitchell, Leonard Jones, George Lewis and many others. These internationally renowned artists are respected throughout the world for their dedication to the highest principals of artistic creation.

The strength of the AACM has been reflected in the ability of it's members to not only continue their individual growth, but to remain dedicated to the development of aspiring creative musicians who attend the AACM's periodic workshops. The organization has proven throughout the years to be an inspiring presence in any community in which it has resided.

It is the opinion of the AACM that the direct application of music in an objective and systematic fashion will heighten immeasurably the family, as well as the environmental and cultural cohesion of our world communities.
